In other words - Dark themes, stylish images, etc, but maybe not as fatalistic as the full blown Noir ?

  1. Interesting topic. I think Save The Tiger, Music Of Chance, and Hard Times are more mainstream than borderline. You have gritty people dealing with the fate life has thrown them. Moral people living in a world not of their own creation and faced with choices that are made for the sake of survival. The element that is missing is a femme fatale. Other movies that could be included are Hard Eight, Se7en, Hustle (with Burt Reynolds and Catherine Denueve), and Glengarry Glen Ross. Good post.
