He eats working-man style, without niceties, in silence and with total concentration, with chewing and drinking noises, sounds of gratification, the clatter of a fork against crockery, the thump of a beer bottle as he plunks it down on the counter. From time to time he turns his head and listens to the music coming from the main room of the night club, where the band is playing without him.
