All But Invisible
He existed a step or two to one side of the common world, largely out of sight, a shadow, all but invisible. Whatever he owned either he could hoist on his back and lug it along or he could walk away from it. Anonymity was what he loved most about the city. Being a part of it and apart from it at the same time.

Sordid, Dirty, Crooked
The other part of me wanted to get out and stay out, but this was the part i never listened to. Because if i ever had i would have stayed in the town where i was born and worked in the hardware store and married the boss's daughter ..........
I might even get rich - small town rich, an eight room house, two cars in the garage, chicken every Sunday and the Reader's Digest on the living room table .........
You take it friend - i'll take the big, sordid, dirty crooked city.
