Across a Table Like This

In such a bar across a table like this i appear to be someone who apparently knows where he is going, confident of himself and aware of what, reasonable to expect when he arrives .....

Another Nighthawk

The viewers of Nighthawks become another nighthawk themselves. New York streets are filled with bright fluorescent lights at night, but it is dark. The loneliness of the New York on Greenwich Avenue where two streets meet. The people in the painting appear lost in their own weariness and private concerns. The disconnection to their reality perhaps the period of the nation's wartime era.

Refuse to Believe

There are two ways to be fooled : one is to believe what isn't true the other is to refuse to believe what is true.

The Edge of Nothing

I have lived my whole life on the edge of nothing. Once you have had to lead a platoon into direct machine-gun fire, nothing is ever the same again.

Weary Blues

Down on Lenox avenue the other night
By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light
He did a lazy sway...….
He did a lazy sway...….
To the tune o' those Weary blues
With his ebony hands on each ivory key
He made that piano moan with melody
