  1. Nice menton of Atlantic City, a classic and underappreciated noir. Burt Lancaster portrays an omnipresent protaganist one sees amongst the fast talkers and hangers reflecting on their imagined glory years. They brag of a past that inflates their accomplishments and associations and gives them a sense of pride that allows them to survive. In other words, they believe their own lies and seeing other people fall for their blandishments gives them the self-confidence to continue to pretend to be somebody as opposed to the noboby they are and never were.
