  1. I have one more category Near Noirs, a list of those somewhat darker, sometimes sleazier, Black & White Films of the Fifties and Sixties that were more "psychological" noir than "crime" Noir but were shot entirely or partly in a seemingly very Noir-ish style, films like for example:

    "Mr. Buddwing"
    "Requiem For a Heavyweight"
    "A Streecar Named Desire"
    "The Fugitive Kind"
"The Man With The Golden Arm"
    "The Hustler"
    "Le salaire de la peur"
    "The Pawnbroker"
    "I Want to Live!"
"A Face in the Crowd "

  2. Your right Ray - there's always been quite a few excellent heavily Noir-influenced movies like these - Streetcar and Hustler in particular appear often on Fragments - The Noir influence seems to extend at least as far as the Western and Classic War movie

  4. These lists are hard to argue with, but i would put Cutter's Way, 52 Pickup, and Night Moves somewhere in the to ten neo noirs. Good to see props for Mr. Buddwing, one of my favorites.
Also L.A. Confidential gotta be here someplace.

  5. I think i'd have to admit LA Conf should probably be included in that retro Ten David You've spotted a loophole ! The others you mentioned are excellent movies although i've only seen clips from Buddwing - Keep those comments coming. Much appreciated
