I have watched The Asphalt Jungle 3-4 times over the years. The best characters were Sam Jaffe as Doc and Sterling Hayden as Dix. They were both chasing their dreams: Dix to escape the urban sh***hole that he lived in and return to his idyllic childhood of pastoral quietude, Doc to go to Mexico with the stolen loot and bed younger girls. The final scene is sad. Doc, knowing he is in the crosshairs of the cops, dumps a pile of quarters on the table to watch an innocent teenager gyrate to the music. His last words are an appreciative gesture to the police, almost thanking them for allowing him one final pleasure before he is returned to prison for another long stretch of confinement.
